The O2 crowned another year as the most successful venue in the world. Operators AEG Europe have put clear blue water between the Greenwich arena and New York’s Madison Square Gardens.
More than two million tickets were sold for the 209 events at The O2 in 2018. They comprise a combination of music, comedy, live entertainment and – increasingly important – blue-chip sports events.
Highlights of the year include comedian Michael McIntyre’s remarkable 28th show. He has now sold 409,238 tickets, more than any other act since the opening of the former Millennium Dome in 2007. And October’s VIP visitors – K-pop stars BTS – broke a merchandise sales record previously held by the Rolling Stones
Other big sellers included sell-outs from Kendrick Lamar and Pearl Jam, the Country To Country Festival, the ATP tennis finals and the Fifa eWorld Cup final.
The O2 has been the top-selling arena since 2008.
Other attractions at The O2
The O2 also added two major new attractions in 2018 to keep the place buzzing during the day. October saw the opening of the Icon Outlet, with brand name stores selling at discount prices.
And Oxygen Freejumping also opened in the summer, offering two floors of trampolining experiences
